Synthesis Post

Have you ever wondered what it would be like owning your own business? Well, here is your chance to learn what the business field has to offer. Through our detailed research of scholarly articles online, we have found that our field has a variety of areas that you could go into, whether that be accounting, finance, human resources, marketing, hospitality, or any specializations of your choosing. No matter what your interest is, there is a place in business for you. By doing this long-term project, it allowed us to explore what it would take to own our own business. Not only was this blog a learning tool for us, it was also meant to help other students discover new business ideas and potential interests of their own. Hopefully, our blog will help you navigate through the complicated business world by explaining what opportunities the field has to offer, how you can become successful in the field, and ultimately help you decide if owning any business is right for you.

When we started this project, we learned that although we were all going into business, we were all pursuing different specializations. We decided to explore our specific fields through the use of our blog posts, specifically the Human ResourcesFinanceMarketingHospitality, and Management departments. Consequently, it allowed us to not only further educate ourselves on what we wanted to do but also what other business fields have to offer. For example, the marketing department encompasses a variety of duties like market analysis, brand management, advertising, promotion, and public relations. Similarly, other departments cover much more aspects that we initially were not informed of.

For someone looking into majoring in business or wondering what part of business is suitable to their interests, it is beneficial to recognize what it takes to become an outstanding businessman. Throughout our lives, we have seen many companies begin small then become more prosperous day after day. We referred to WalmartDiLeonardo Designs, and Apple to learn how they became the global-leading companies they are today. In DiLeonardo Designs, the founder, Robert DiLeonardo himself, employs a flexible organizational structure in which teams were allowed to collaborate freely, hence inducing an increase in the number of ideas generated. We thought that we could learn from these companies and replicate their strategies, tricks, and tools they used so that one day we could do the same. After doing all of this research, we found that it helped us learn more about business and provided us with the skills needed to run our own business if we were to start one someday.

We also found that communication and learning the language of the business field is important. By exposing ourselves to the business world through reading books, browsing online articles, and having hands-on experiences, we have found that our language consists of important jargon and abbreviations. In our research, we have found that there are two types of languages in the hotel business context: specific and nonspecific language. These languages basically divide actual verbal language with body language, where verbal language could be further categorized as abbreviations and professional. On the other hand, body language like a smile and not using the word ‘like’ enhances the quality of service towards the hotel’s guests. In the end, we found that when we communicate in the business world, we mostly use the language in meetings, conferences, and when speaking with clients. Ultimately, if you want to someday create an extraordinary business, it is important to understand the language you will be using.

Overall, writing this blog has helped us understand the business industry and what we can do in order to thrive when we graduate. We also hope that other college freshmen find our blog useful if deciding to go into business or deciding what they want to do specifically in business. As a whole, we hope that anyone who looks at our blog gains insightful knowledge of the business field.
