Prompt #5: MSU Marketing Association

Given the options of majors that are available within the Broad Business College, I am still indecisive about which major I want to study. To learn more about the majors provided, earlier this year when I was researching on which club I wanted to join, by visiting Sparticipation and searching through websites, I came across MSU Marketing Association (MSUMA) and decided to join it.

I did not have that much impression about the club itself because I have only seen them through the Sparticipation booth and their website, so the only impression I have of them was to have discussions about what is happening in the marketing side of the business world and having presentations by visiting companies about marketing.

However, when I first joined one of their first events, which was a BBQ session, it was less professional/formal than I thought (in a good way). I had a few conversations with juniors and seniors and talked about where we came from and talked about their majors over food.

After a good first impression about the club, I decided to join their first general meeting where they invited Marathon Petroleum representatives to present about what they do, jobs they offer and the experiences they offer. At the end of the presentation, they also gave a chance for students to talk to the representatives and make connections.

On the other hand, they also provide opportunities to dedicated members to go for a trip to Detroit where they will have party while also attend presentations by companies in the area. They also have other social events like hayride.

I think it despite being an official university club, and representing themselves formally to their students, this club presents a good balance of work-related and socializing activities. Additionally, they also provide leadership opportunities if you were to become an executive board member of the club, which will boost your resume.
